Our Community

Reaching out to the parent and physician communities

As part of our belief in “whole-person” therapy, we consider the patient’s physician and the family members an extension of the therapy team. Our strong relationships with referring physicians, and friendly, inclusive attitudes towards patient families creates an environment of close cooperation that benefits our patients.

Milestones also has developed a program of informational workshops that are held FREE of charge to the community. The workshops are developed by our own staff and occasionally, a member of the medical community will present on subjects of interest in the areas of health and development.

Milestones for Moms

The issues related to physical challenges extend beyond the individual to impact family life. For this reason, we sponsor “Milestones for Moms,” a support group that meets at our facility twice each month. Our staff is on hand to answer questions, encourage discussion, and give reassurance to parents. For information, call us at (956) 661-0475 or email moms@milestonestx.com

A Place to Grow and Learn

Milestones is committed to being a resource to our community in addressing family needs. Many times each year, our staff is asked to present educational workshops to school personnel, other rehabilitation professionals, community organizations and parental support groups. Milestones is also a practicum site for leading area universities, placing us at the forefront of new knowledge and attracting the best new talent entering the therapy workplace.

Community Outings

Milestone's staff works hard each day with children gaining independence. We realize that the skills exhibited in our clinic are great accomplishments but may not necessarily carry over into daily life without practice. Therefore, our staff has developed a program to integrate these newly learned skills into community settings.

Each month, a selected group of our patients are invited to participate in a fun event which will allow children to use their blossoming skills in a community outing. These experiences have included counting and manipulating money to pay admittance to the movies, going to the snack bar to purchase their favorite goodies, bowling a ball down the lane for a strike and splashing in the community swimming pol. The opportunity to participate in 'real life' situations, guided and nurtured by parents and therapists, has facilitated confidence in their newly realized skill. This program has been recently developed, and our families look forward to its progression and growth to encompass a wide variety of community-based experiences.
