Participation in family/community life, making new friends, success in school – all can be significantly more difficult when communication or swallowing problems exist. In Milestones’ speech-language/swallowing programs, therapists facilitate our patients’ skills utilizing a variety of innovative techniques and setting a rapid course for progress. Sophisticated treatments for all ages from infancy through geriatrics are the order of the day at Milestones. Language and Socialization is also facilitated in the sensory-rich environment of our newly-opened pool. Speech Therapists engage in team-oriented therapy using this new modality resulting in positive changes in children's communication and language development. Our staff possess a multitude of specialty certifications in state-of-the-art whole-body applications, including VitalStim Therapy (an active rehabilitation program combining the physiological benefits of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation volitional therapeutic programming for swallowing disorders), Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation (DPNS), The European Pediatric Approach, NDT, PROMPT therapy (direct tactile input to the articulators to facilitate speedy motor sequencing for sounds in words) Listening Fitness Training (LIFT) and Samonas Auditory Intervention – both based upon the Tomatis Method for treating auditory processing disorders. Our staff includes dually certified deaf-educators/SLP’s, as well as bilingual teammates whom are fluent in Spanish and American Sign Language. Milestones also offers a comprehensive augmentative communication program replete with a variety of options from the light-tech Picture Exchange Systems (PECS) to state-of-the-art Dynavox computerized voice output devices for those clients in need of such services. Milestones staff includes specialists trained in the internationally acclaimed Hanen Language Program. Milestones has Certified Trainers who help guide and hone parental and educator skills for language facilitation in young children using sophisticated video feedback. We believe that by helping others learn how to efficiently replicate learning opportunities in homes and schools, our children will have a meteoric success rate – versus that of a snail’s pace – by sheer virtue of opportunities harnessed. Our newest speech program is the Language to Reading program addressing dyslexia and other language-based learning problems.  |
